Elements from the False Door in
the Chapel
2006 Roughly a music video, Elements from the False Door in the Chapel is an irrational surface, tenuously connected to and contingent upon materials from which it mutated. This surface is not a window, but a world unto itself, built and rebuilt in periodic iterations. A strange song emerges. Goats and stairways to nowhere; video as monstrosity. A poem was assembled from bits and fragments of language culled from explanatory labels attached to art works and artifacts at various museums. This work is recorded--translated into audio, and subsequently distorted to the point of unintelligibility; a “music track” created through the obfuscation of primary content. Images are gathered and put together. Surface upon surface: the aim is to dismantle and reconfigure the possibilities of narrative through the exclusion and replacement of the motivating engine of diegesis. Image is dissolved into language... language, dissolved into sound... sound dissolved into image. Dissolution, not deconstruction. A reading of entrails. single channel video with sound, 7 minutes back/next/main
